E-Learning Challenge: Flat design graphics for e-learning
This ELH Challenge was to create a flat design desktop theme based on your own environment.
While thinking about this challenge, my mind took me back to the first setup I ever had—A Spectrum computer with a cassette loader and joystick. In a wave of nostalgia, I decided to create my flat design based on my earliest setup.
The Look and Feel
Flat design was the theme for this demo, with simple visual elements, solid colours with no gradients or shadows. I created the graphics in PowerPoint and brought them into Storyline.
Here is the workflow used:
- Use the Shape tool in PowerPoint (mainly squares and ovals) to create the main sections
- Add detail with the line tool or smaller shapes
- Format the shapes with a solid colour with no border
- Group all shapes
- Copy group
- Paste as image
The joystick was a little tricky. In order to get the shape for the grip, I used the subtract tool from the combine shapes toolset.
To bring the old computer back to life, I found some great clips on YouTube displaying the loading screen and a retro game. These have been incorporated into the desktop setup and are available via an interaction!
Take yourself back in the demo below.
